RE
At Carr Hill Primary & Nursery School, our Religious Education (RE) curriculum supports our values of Aspire, Enjoy and Flourish by helping pupils develop curiosity, understanding and respect for the beliefs, traditions and values of others. We believe that learning about religion and worldviews helps children make sense of the world around them, develop a strong moral compass, and build the empathy needed to live well together in a diverse society.
Our RE curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure that pupils develop a deepening understanding of key religious concepts and practices as they move through the school. Knowledge is revisited and built upon each year so that pupils make secure connections between faith, culture and identity. Through enquiry-based learning, pupils explore Christianity and other principal religions and worldviews represented in the UK today, reflecting the rich diversity of our local and wider community.
We are committed to ensuring that our curriculum builds cultural capital for all pupils by broadening their awareness of the wider world, encouraging open-mindedness and respect for difference. Through rich discussions, visits, visitors and cross-curricular links, children encounter a range of lived experiences and develop an appreciation of how faith and belief influence people’s lives, values and actions.
Our RE provision is inclusive of all learners, including those with SEND and those who are disadvantaged. Lessons are adapted and scaffolded so that every child can access key concepts, express personal viewpoints and engage meaningfully in reflection and dialogue. We maintain high expectations for all, encouraging pupils to think critically, ask questions and articulate their ideas confidently and respectfully.
By the time pupils leave Carr Hill Primary & Nursery School, they will have:
- A secure understanding of major world religions and worldviews.
- The ability to express their own beliefs and values while respecting those of others.
- Developed empathy, curiosity and tolerance — essential qualities for modern British society.
- The knowledge, vocabulary and cultural awareness to engage thoughtfully with global issues.
Through RE, our pupils aspire to understand others, enjoy exploring big questions about life and belief, and flourish as compassionate, reflective citizens who are ready to contribute positively to the world around them.
