Computing
At Carr Hill Primary & Nursery School, our Computing curriculum equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding to thrive in a rapidly changing digital world. We aim to develop confident, responsible and creative digital citizens who can use technology safely, purposefully and effectively — both now and in the future.
Our sequenced curriculum builds progressively from Early Years to Year 6, ensuring pupils develop secure knowledge and skills across the three strands of computing: computer science, information technology and digital literacy. Pupils learn how digital systems work, how to create programs, and how to express themselves and develop their ideas through technology.
We maintain high expectations for all, ensuring that every pupil — including those with SEND and those who are disadvantaged — has equitable access to high-quality computing experiences. Learning is adapted and scaffolded to meet individual needs, while challenge is embedded for all learners. Our inclusive approach ensures every pupil can engage meaningfully, achieve success, and develop digital confidence.
Our curriculum promotes cultural capital by helping pupils understand how computing shapes the modern world — from communication and creativity to problem-solving and innovation. Pupils are introduced to diverse role models in technology and are encouraged to think critically about the ethical, social and environmental implications of digital advances.
By the time pupils leave Carr Hill Primary & Nursery School, they will have:
-
Developed computational thinking and problem-solving skills;
-
Gained the ability to use a range of software and digital tools creatively and responsibly;
-
Understood how to stay safe online and make positive choices in digital environments;
-
Learned to evaluate and apply technology purposefully in real-world contexts;
-
Developed curiosity, resilience and creativity in using technology to support learning and innovation.
Through this curriculum, our pupils become digitally literate, confident users of technology and well-prepared for the digital opportunities and challenges of the future.
