Physical Education (PE)
At Carr Hill Primary & Nursery School, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum aims to inspire all pupils to lead active, healthy lives and to develop a lifelong love of physical activity, sport and wellbeing. We believe that participation in high-quality PE builds character, resilience and teamwork, supporting both physical and mental health while fostering a sense of enjoyment and belonging.
Our sequenced curriculum ensures that pupils build and refine a broad range of skills progressively from Early Years to Year 6. Lessons are structured to develop agility, balance, coordination and fitness, as well as tactical understanding and teamwork across a variety of sports and physical activities. Pupils are taught to evaluate their own and others’ performance and to strive for personal improvement and excellence.
We have high expectations for all pupils, ensuring that every child — including those with SEND and those who are disadvantaged — can participate fully and achieve success in PE. Activities are adapted and inclusive, allowing all learners to experience achievement and develop confidence in a supportive environment. Challenge is built into lessons to stretch every child’s potential.
Our curriculum promotes cultural capital by providing pupils with a wide range of sporting experiences, including opportunities to engage in competitive sport, outdoor and adventurous activities, and collaboration with community clubs. Pupils learn about the history of sport, teamwork, fair play and respect, fostering pride and aspiration through shared experiences.
By the time pupils leave Carr Hill Primary & Nursery School, they will have:
-
Developed competence in a broad range of physical activities and sports;
-
Sustained physical activity for extended periods and understood the importance of fitness and wellbeing;
-
