Carr Hill Primary School

  1. Governors
  2. Governors Meetings

Governors Meetings

The Carr Hill Governing Body meets every term: one of these is the Full Governing Body Meeting where Governors discuss the work of the Committees and receive reports from the Headteacher and The Local Authority. In addition, there are Committee Meetings which also meet once a term. There are three Committees:

Finance and General Purposes
Pupil and Personnel
Strategic Development

and each of the Governors is a member of at least one of these committees, although they are free to attend others, and most do so. Participation in these Committee Meetings are a very important part of the work that Governors do as it is here that the detail is discussed. In Autumn 2021 the memberships were as follows:

Finance and General Purposes:  Sally Alford, Anthony Tromans (Chair), Barry Upton and Jackie Clayton

Pupil and Personnel: Sally Alford, Mark Barnett (Chair), Gwen Moles, Vince Kay,

Strategic Development: Sally Alford, James Haslam (Chair), Jaime Morgan Hitchcock, Helen Tamblyn-Saville, Claire Stallworthy.

School Visits

In addition to attending meetings, all Governors undertake school visits – currently “virtual” visits.  Governor Visits can be divided into two groups:Those which are concerned with Compliance; and
Those which are focused specifically on School Improvement

Compliance includes the following:

i. Policies Update
ii. Health & Safety Inspection
iii. Safeguarding & Central Record Checks
iv. Website & GDPR
v. HT Appraisal
vi. Specific Funding Areas – e.g. PPG; Sports Grant

Each Governor would take a responsibility for ONE of these Compliance areas.

School Improvement Visits focus on specific Improvement Targets identified in the School’s Evaluation and Improvement Plans. Currently these are to:

1)      To increase rates of pupil progress and attainment in writing.

2)      To further strengthen quality first teaching (QFT) in order to continue to raise standards in core subjects and further mitigate the impact of school closures.

3)      To further develop leaders at all levels in order to continue to raise standards across the wider curriculum.

4)      To strengthen and increase engagement of parents with the process of their child’s learning in order to improve pupil achievement, with a particular focus on disadvantaged pupils.

Governors would normally visit once a year to cover all of the Improvement Priorities
