# 3rd July 2017

In Mathematics we have been working on measures. We have been using our understanding of capacity and key facts (1000ml=1L) to help us accurately convert measures. Reading scales accurately has also been a focus of our work.

In English we have been using ‘Zoo’ by Anthony Browne to explore the theme of animals in captivity. We have looked closely at images to infer meaning. Next, we are moving on to look at writing our own discussion texts, which will answer the question, ‘Should Animals be kept in Zoos?

This week we had 98.7% attendance. Our handshake score was 19. A great total this week!

In Mathematics we have continued to work on our understanding of angles and lines. We have compared angles to a right angle, made stick men with different angles and, at the end of the week, we wrote on the tables again! We identified horizontal, vertical, parallel and perpendicular lines as well as acute, right and obtuse angles.

Kittens!
We had a really exciting time on Friday when Hollie’s mum very kindly brought her kittens in to class. We absolutely loved stroking and cuddling them. We managed to fall in love with all six of the tiny bundles!

Friday was crazy hair day. Thank you to everyone that supported this.

This week we had 95.2% attendance. Our handshake score was 19. A good total this week!

This week in English we have used the poem structure of ‘My Little Monster’ by Elaine Morandini to write a new poem about a rainforest animal of our choice.

In this week in Mathematics we have extended our work on fractions to solve problems. We had to apply all of our previous learning to our mild, spicy or hot challenge!

In topic, we have started to explore rainforests around the world. We have used an atlas to locate rainforests around the world, as well as identifying the equator and tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. We have also started some research work to discover more about the different layers of the rainforest and the animals that live there.

This week we had 98% attendance which meant we earned another certificate. Well done everyone! Our handshake score was 6.
