English- This week we have been writing our non-fiction leaflets about ‘Keeping Fit and Healthy’. Our leaflets contain information such as the healthy foods we should be eating, why these foods are good for us, why our bodies need exercise and what happens to our bodies when we exercise.

Maths- This week we have been learning to add money together. We have drawn pictures and jottings to help us.

Enterprise money- This week we have spent some of our £80 which we received from our enterprise projects. We have sponsored a horse and a donkey called Sparky and Matilda who live at Bransby Horse Sanctuary. Bransby Horse Sanctuary looks after horses and donkeys which are poorly or haven’t been treated very. We had lots of fun choosing them and we were all very excited to take our certificates home with us. We also chose to spend some of our money on a dog cushion called ‘Amy Johnson’ who the children will be taking in turns to sit on for the day. We spent some of our money on chocolate cakes, cookies and crisps to have on Friday afternoon it was delicious!

This week we have been practising what we have learnt this year so far. We have practised our spellings, punctuation and grammar. We have also practised answering questions about a text.

This week we have been practising our arithmetic and reasoning skills. We had to read the questions very carefully so we know which maths to draw pictures for to help us work out the answer.

English Institute of Sport
On Thursday we visited the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. When we arrived we were greeted by a guide who gave us a tour of the building. They showed us where all the real athletes trained. We were lucky enough to see a few of them such as Anthony Joshua  and have our photos taken with them.  The teachers there were fantastic and taught us skills needed for football, basketball and athletics. We really enjoyed throwing a javelin and jumping over the hurdles. Lots of us also really enjoyed shooting baskets even though we found dribbling the ball tricky!

20th March 2017

This week we have been writing our own Super Hero Stories. We used our story maps to help us write them. We included lots of exciting vocabulary to make our stories exciting!
Here is Evie’s story about Bat Girl.
We have also been using text maps to plan our own ‘Keeping Fit and Healthy’ leaflets.

We have been folding shapes to make halves and quarters. We then used these shapes to help us make a jotting to find fractions of amounts. James was in the Hall of Fame this week for his fantastic work.

In phonics this week, we have been learning about the different ‘ee’ phoneme. We have been applying our knowledge of when to use ‘ee’, ‘ea’, ‘ey’ and ‘y’. You might want to ask us at home!
