We have been learning an African song "Maleezweh!" which is a song in praise of one's country.

Roughly translated it means "My country I love you,  praise for my country!"

The children have had fun with the words, rhythms and movement. This week we invited members of Rock School to add some authenticity by accompanying us with their djembe playing.

We hope you enjoy this song.

Back in Time with the Beatles!

We hope your enjoy our musical collaboration with some of our members of Rock School.  Whenever possible they join our weekly singing assembly to provide some musical accompaniment.  Last Thursday we recorded our performance of The Beatles’ first single “Love Me Do”.  It has been a great hit with everyone.   How wonderful that those songs are still popular with all ages.

Love is in the Air!

This week we hope to spread a little love and happiness with our performance of Love is in the Air.  The song was originally recorded by John Paul Young in 1978.  We have been learning it in assembly for the past two weeks and the members of Rock School have added their own backing.  We hope you enjoy the performance.

Please check here weekly for updates on the songs we are currently learning.  We will add links to the lyrics and backing tracks for you to practise and enjoy at home.

Here is one to get you started!  Ask your child to teach you the Warm up Stomp – Have fun!

Wishing you all a happy half term break.

A Rockin’ Assembly!

This week, members of Rock School joined forces with the whole school singing assembly and this resulted in a great time for all.  We have begun a new three weekly cycle of rehearsal and performance and hope to bring you a new video every three weeks.   We are very proud of all our singers and musicians and applaud them for their hard work and dedication. We hope you enjoy our performance of The Monkees’ “I’m a Believer”.

Rock School meets every Wednesday after school and the children are able to experiment with different instruments and work towards a performance.  We always start with a drumming workshop to encourage group work and performance skills.  The main aim is to have fun and give our children a love of music.   They are encouraged to come along and play in singing assembly on Thursday mornings to build their confidence in performing to an audience.   Please have a look at the film clips of them in action preparing for this week’s assembly.
