Children from years 3 to 6 have been attending Musical Theatre Club on Tuesdays after school and working on a production of ‘Matilda’, the story written by Roald Dahl and brought to the musical theatre stage by Tim Minchin. September 2016 marked the anniversary of 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, so it seemed an obvious choice for a performance this year.

‘Matilda’ the musical has won many awards and has a very important message –‘just because you find that life’s not fair, it doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it’ and ‘nobody but me is gonna change my story’.  The music is very challenging but our children rose to occasion.  Two performances were given and both were hugely successful.

Everyone in the cast, choir and backstage crew gave their utmost commitment to the show and as a result, had a production they can be extremely proud of and hopefully it will be a memory that will stay with them for a long time.

Mrs Smith, Mrs Crossland and Mrs Holtom have said how proud they are of every single member and it has been amazing to see children grow in confidence over the weeks and months of rehearsal and to see such talent emerge.   We hope that children will return next year to Musical Theatre Club or, for those in Year 6 that they will continue to enjoy performing when they move onto their next journey at secondary school.
