10th December 2018

English:
We have been working on developing our instructional writing. We have been exploring some different Jamie Oliver recipes to inspire and support our own versions of chocolate mousse and chocolate chip cookies.

Maths:
In Maths this week we have been consolidating our knowledge of the 12 and 24 hour clocks as we delved deeper into our work on timetables.

Topic:
This week in topic we have been exploring different forms of advertising and developing our branding for our Christmas enterprise product. Please keep a look out for 5JG’s Crunchy Christmas Crispies.

Many thanks to all that came to the Christmas craft morning and helped test and try our cakes and packaging.

English:
This week in English we have been working hard looking at the grammar features of instructional writing as well as looking at different ways of tackling different reading comprehension texts.

Maths:
This week in Maths we have been developing our arithmetic skills and particularly looking at different strategies to combat difficult calculations. In addition, we have been working in small groups with assigned roles to complete problem solving tasks.

Topic:
We have continued our exploration of chocolate and have begun to design our packaging for our class product. We have also begun to look and discuss what features make an advert effective.

English:

This week in English we have been working hard to learn about the different sentences types and forms of punctuation that we can when writing instructions.

Maths:

This week in Maths we have been building our knowledge of time tables. We have been carefully looking at how we are able to read, analyse and use the different data within these timetables.

Topic:

Excitingly, this week we have at created and decided on our product for the Christmas enterprise event. Following our market and product research, we voted to produce chocolate inspired crispy cakes for our product.

Maths:

Our class have been continuing to explore the subtraction and addition within word problems. We have been looking at finding the key information and using this to help us in using the correct operation.

English:

Our look into Leon and Place in between continuing and we hosted a fierce debate into whether Leon went to the place between or was just using his imagination.

Topic:

In topic this week we have been continuing our look at forces and started our investigation into friction.

Maths:

This week in maths we have been looking at Addition and Subtraction. We have been looking at our strategies for solving addition and subtraction mentally.

English:

This week in English we have been continuing our exploration of Leon and the place between. We have been using drama techniques to explore the key parts of the story.

Maths

This week in maths we have been looking at consolidating our knowledge of Roman numerals and looking at how we can convert between numbers and the Roman numeral equivalent.

English

In English this week have introduced our new topic of writing narrative stories. We have been looking at the book Leon and the place between. This is going to provide the inspiration for our stories.

This week in topic we have been working hard on our carousels and they are beginning to take shape.

Maths

This week we have been looking at rounding numbers and looking at which digit we need to round to in order to give us the correct answer.

English

This week in English we have been looking at the British Olympic Diver Tom Daley. We have been developing our knowledge of this inspirational person to help us in writing our up coming biographies.

European Languages Day

We had a day of looking at the European country of Greece and learning about its culture, history and language.

Welcome to the Dr Jane Goodall Class blog where we will keep you up to date about our class adventures. 

Attendance
In week two we have achieved our first attendance certificate of the year and will be collecting these throughout the year for class rewards. 

English
In English this week we have been looking at the biographies of Roald Dahl, J K Rowling and Usain Bolt and the main features that make up biolographical writing.

Maths
This week in Maths we have been looking at the Place Value of numbers and how we represent different numbers and are able to express them as written words and their numerical value. 

Topic
This half term in topic our focus is Scream Machine and we will be looking at different rides and how which forces operate on them. We have been working hard to design our own carrousels that we will be making throughout this half term. 

School Council
We would like to congratulate all the individuals that ran for election for this years school council. Following an excellent number of confident speeches and a tight final vote, Wayde came out on top and was elected as our class representative for the school council.
