We have had a fantastic week learning about Diwali and ‘The Festival of Lights’. Activities have ranged from Diwali dancing, writing the story of Rama and Sita and even cooking and food tasting.
The children thoroughly enjoyed chopping up different types of fruit including pineapple and melon, then dipping it in yoghurt for a tasty treat.
We designed our own Mehndi patterns on outlines of our hands. There were some amazing designs produced.
We ended last half-term writing our own versions of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The children worked incredibly hard to include a sentence of 3 in their writing and direct speech. They chose their favourite paragraph to present and we have made a class book with them in which is in our ‘Reading Corner’.
This week we elected our School Council Representative. Three children bravely stood before the class and told them why they thought they would be a wonderful choice for the role, then the class did a secret ballot to vote for their chosen candidate. Alfie D won the election by only several votes, and will be attending School Council Meetings to representative the views of our class.
Our ‘Champion of the Week’ is Alfie L who has worked incredibly hard this week with his writing, working alone to write the story of Rama and Sita. He also concentrated on improving his handwriting and has successfully moved up the ‘Handwriting Ladder’. Well done Alfie!
