# 6th November 2017

This week in maths we have been continuing to use whole part diagrams to help us learn our fact families. Fact families are when the same 3 digits are used to make all the known facts  e.g.
6 + 4 = 10
4 + 6 = 10
10 - 4 = 6
10 - 6 = 4

In English we have been using all five senses (sight, taste, hearing, touch, smell) to explore bonfire items. We tasted and smelt bonfire toffee and hot dogs, we touched hats, scarves, gloves and leaves. We also watched and listened to firework videos! The children then came up with some amazing adjectives which we will use to write descriptive sentences for our bonfire poems.

In spelling we have been looking at the ’ge’ and ’dge’ spelling pattern. We noticed that if there is a short vowel sound, such as in ’edge’, then the spelling pattern is ’dge’. We also noticed that if there is a long vowel sound, such as in ’age’, then the spelling pattern is ’ge’.
Don’t forget to practice your spellings in your Y1 Phonics/Y2 Spelling booklets!
In topic we have been learning about the four countries and capital cities that make up the United Kingdom. We have also been looking at famous landmarks in each of these four countries.

We are visiting the Book Fair on Wednesday 8th November. You will also be able to visit the Book Fair after school on Wednesday.
This week we received a tremendous 23 handshakes!
Our attendance this week was 97.8%
