Carr Hill County Finalists
Following their successes at the local and then the area finals in December, Carr Hill’s athletics team represented Bassetlaw in the Nottinghamshire Winter Games at Nottingham Tennis Centre.
The children took part in an opening ceremony where they heard talks from successful sportsmen and women including Laura Bassett, part of the England football team that recently won a bronze medal in the FIFA World Cup.
The format of the event was significantly different to previous events the children had taken part in. The children had to learn new races such as the over and under relay, obstacle relay and vertical jump. It was an exciting day with Carr Hill’s team getting the chance to test themselves against the county’s best athletes in their age group.
“I was really nervous at first,” said Ella, “but once the race started I was fine. I was proud of myself and my team.” Libby commented, “It was a fantastic opportunity. I want to keep doing athletics in the future.”
Carr Hill finished the competition in eighth place and all of the children should be proud of the effort and sporting behaviour displayed during the day. The children are pictured with Bassetlaw councillors Gwynneth Jones and James Anderson.
