On Monday 7th November, a group of Carr Hill’s Year 5 children visited Retford Cemetery to place remembrance crosses on the graves of soldiers who lost their lives during the wars.
We were joined by Mr and Mrs Goodall from the Royal British Legion who talked to us about the different branches of the armed services and about the different regiments displayed on the gravestones. The children were particularly struck by the young age at which many of the soldiers lost their lives.
In order to express our feelings, the children read poems and explained the circumstances in which one of the poems was written. They also explored the idea of remembrance and said a prayer.
