English: A new text! We are reading a text called, “The Tree Giant” and have spent this week carrying out close reading in order to ask the questions of it that we would like answering. This means we have been using the “5W” questions (Why? Where? When? What? Who? as well as How?) In addition, we’ve been practising using learned strategies to answer reading comprehensions questions.
Mathematics: We have progressed from using arrays to visually show multiplications questions to using known multiplications facts in formal written calculations. However, if we are unsure of our times tables then we can use arrays to help us.
This week has been anti-bullying week. We have held assemblies talking about anti-bullying and the children have enjoyed designing posters, which we hope to have displayed when they are finished. Our photographs show how hard we worked on our creations.
Children in Need
On Friday, the children were delighted to cast aside their uniforms to wear “dotty” clothes to support this very worthwhile charity. Also, they have taken part in an intra year competition where they have drawn and coloured their own “Pudsey Bear” pictures. Results to be revealed soon! As usual, Dawn in the kitchen worked extremely hard to provide all the children with a Pudsey biscuit each.
Our star of the week is Ethan Gabbott because he is trying hard to work more independently.
Unfortunately, our attendance dipped a little with 96.96%, which is quite a bit below our target of 98%. Hopefully, we’ll improve next week.
